Trump says you can’t fight AI Data Centers

But here's why he's wrong.

“You have to convince your community how great these things…you can’t fight it. You have to go with it,” President Donald Trump said at a recent press conference.

Trump, however, is wrong. Seven out of ten Americans oppose AI Data Centers being built near them, according to a 2026 Gallup poll. Not only that, but the country just had a bipartisan National Day of Protests against AI Data Centers (an event initially started by a conservative group).

You *can fight it, and communities are winning.

From 2024 to 2026, community action on data centers has been building. At first, it was a lukewarm pot on the stove of grievances that kept increasing in temperature as almost every city in America, suddenly found itself faced with a data center that seemingly appeared out of thin air.

By the end of 2025, the water was boiling.

Politicians got recalled, voted out, and lawsuits were all over the place.

A few politicians suddenly gained the ability of self-awareness and thought, “maybe we should listen to the community that elected us, and maybe we should try to regulate data centers.”

This group has grown over the last two years. However, even now, some politicians have yet to develop any self-awareness.

Moratoriums started to pop up all over the country. A data center moratorium is a pause on any new data center projects. For a designated time, city and county governments do not accept new applications for data centers.

The purpose of a moratorium is to give governments time to come up with regulations around data centers that would hold companies accountable, protect communities, and the environment.

Senator Bernie Sanders and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez introduced legislation to do this at the federal level.

Then, the dam broke and an entire state paused data center applications: New York.

November is on the way, and politicians from both sides will win, or lose their elections depending on how they view artificial intelligence and data centers.

They’re begging for them.

At the event, Trump claimed these AI Data Centers cause “very little actual disruption.” The word ‘actual’ is doing the heaviest lifting here.

I could keep going, but you get the idea. Perhaps one of the more concerning issues people constantly tell me about is their worry over a surveillance state that they believe data center infrastructure is creating.

So, when Trump says, “you have communities that really want the data center…they’re begging for them,” a comment like that is met with the highest skepticism, at this point, even from his most loyal supporters.

His statement does not correspond to the reality of what’s happening in cities across America. If anything, local laws on data centers are moving faster than ever before.

The PR problem that the AI Data Center industry has in the United States is almost beyond repair.

At this point in time, the only argument that exists for the rapid unregulated race of AI buildout in the U.S. is “to beat China.”

And yet! When American AI Company Open AI’s models went ‘rogue’ and hacked into another company, it was China that had to clean up the mess.

Our models simply were not good enough to stop the ‘rogue AI.’

CNBC writes “the origin of the model Hugging Face used to combat the rogue AI is also turning heads. The startup used GLM 5.2, an open weight system created by Chinese company Z.ai. Ultimately, it succeeded where leading U.S. rivals failed.”

The elected politicians and the people still supporting rapid unregulated Artificial Intelligence won’t proudly tell you that story. They also won’t tell you that nobody ‘wins’ if we do not build AI responsibly.

Hopefully people realize that it is less about ‘beating China,’ and more about ‘how much money can developers and corporations make as quickly as possible?’

This is the digital gold rush.

The US has the most data centers in the world and it’s not even close. “Why do we need so many data centers?” That is what people usually comment on my videos.

When you see all of the money involved in AI, “you can’t fight it,” starts to make more sense. It is the battle cry for the industry that benefits from you giving up.

You *can fight it, it’s not inevitable, community involvement matters, and we decide the future. There is nothing wrong with demanding that our air, water, and land be protected.

There is nothing wrong with demanding that the most advanced technology we have ever created, be regulated and be made safe. Those who tell you otherwise are not worth your energy, or consideration.

We have no other choice, but to get this right.

It’s the most important fight in human history.
